Brief History About the Ladoke Akintola University

The history of how Ladoke Akintola University started can be traced back to 1987. LAUTECH was formerly known as Oyo State University as of when the school started in April 1990. Furthermore, the Planning of the institution was triggered by the letter sent to the then military governor of Oyo state (already split into two states: Oyo and Osun) in 1987. This movement was pushed by a seven-member committee set up in the governing council of the Polytechnic Ibadan. The committee was headed by Mrs. Oyinka Ayoola.

In reaction to their report, the then government established a committee of 15 members and several other committees to plan the inception of the state university. Furthermore, in October 1989, the then Governor of Oyo State (Col. Sasaenia Adedeji Oresanya) set up an inter-ministerial committee to deliberate on the proposal of the university.

After the deliberation, it was finally approved to commence the school structure as the fund was raised by the committee through donations. The school was later called Ladoke Akintola University Ogbomoso when the Oyo State was split into two giving rise to Osun State. LAUTECH started with 436 students and four faculties when they began their first academic session on 19th October 1990. The existing faculties then were;

  • Pure and Applied Sciences

The College of Health Sciences was established in the school a year later. Currently, the school has up to 7 Faculties and 2 Colleges. Also, the school has a student capacity of over 30,000 students. They offer both pre-degree, undergraduate, and postgraduate science Programmes

Admission Processing Guide for the Ladoke Akintola University

Generally, getting admission into Ladoke Akintola University is like that of any other tertiary institution in the country. Students are expected to have completed their secondary school education and must have sat for their O’Level exams (WAEC/NECO). Hence, you must score at least a pass grade in the O’Level scoring system at not more than two sittings in at least five relevant topics to your desired field of study.

Furthermore, Lautech is a technology and science-based university. Thus, students must ensure they pass their Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and English with any other science-related subject to be considered for admission in the school. In addition, after the students have gotten their O’level ready, there are three possible ways they can get admission to the school. These are;

  • Through direct application to the school using JAMB application.
  • Direct Entry to the school using ND certificate
  • Pre-degree

But the truth remains that either way, all students are expected to write the JAMB examination to be considered for admission entry to the school. Meanwhile, regarding the Pre-degree program and direct entry, being considered for admission into the school will be easy. Therefore, all students are expected to meet the JAMB cut-off mark for LAUTECH (180) to be considered for admission.

Additionally, those applying for admission directly through JAMB will be required to enter the school’s admission screening exam for further processing of their admission to the school. This is if they met the cut-off mark as earlier stated. See below for how to register for the LAUTECH admission Screening exam.

What’s your take on this? I urge you to use this same opportunity to share this information with others using Facebook, or Twitter buttons you see.

Other Guide

The students are expected to meet their respective departments’ admission cut-off marks during the screening exam to be considered for admission. Notably, Pre-degree students already have leverage due to their program in the school. Hence, they are only expected to pass the JAMB exam to be considered for admission into the school.

However, students applying through direct entry into Lautech will commence their study in the school starting from the 200 Level. They’ll also write the JAMB examination and also provide their National Diploma result scoring at least an upper credit.

Kindly note that LAUTECH has zero-tolerance for fraudulent acts especially on faking of documents by students. As a result, any student who is caught in the act is said to face the penalty.

Moreover, LAUTECH allows deferment of admission by students who have setbacks in undertaking the admission opportunity granted to them by the school. Meanwhile, the student must have paid and done all necessary enrollment registration to be considered for deferring admission. You can see below on how to enter for the school’s admission screening exercise.
