Brief History of the Federal Polytechnic Oko

Typically, what we now know as the Federal Polytechnic Oko started as the College of Arts and Science in 1979. The institution is located at Oko in Anambra State Nigeria. Then the school specialized in teaching students about the standard of sitting for the General Certificate in Education (GCE) exams.

The founding of this Polytechnic was an effort of the Oko Progressive Union (OPU). They saw a rising need to establish an institution that would serve the community and train the youths on being practical-oriented. As time unfolded, technology programs were added to the school on June 28, 1980. This contributed to making the institution the College of Arts, Science, and Technology.

Consequently, the inclusion of technological programs in the school drives a lot of Nigerian college seekers to apply for the school. The College was officially called the Anambra State Polytechnic in 1985. This was a supplement to the Anambra State Gazzete published on 10 June 1984. Meanwhile, in 1993 the institution was taken over by the Federal Government of Nigeria and now became the Federal Polytechnic Oko.

Currently, the Federal Polytechnic Oko has three campuses all situated within Anambra State, with 8 schools. Likewise, the institution offers a variety of courses, all approved by the National Board of Technical Education in Nigeria (NBTE). Today, Oko Poly continues to outlive its purpose as described in its motto “Creativity and Service”. The school produced many creative graduates serving the country to the apex of development.
