Brief History of the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro

Firstly, the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro is fondly called FPI. This institution was established on the 25th of July, 1979, under Decree No. 33. Typically, the polytechnic was established to promote the education of individuals. This was envisaged as an essential step towards societal development.

Notably, this permanent site, covering about 896.116 hectares of land, boosted the educational standard of the institution.

Furthermore, FPI started its academic activities on the 15th of November 1979, with Dr. T.A. Ogunbadajo as the Pioneer Rector of the institution. In its early days, it operated with a few departments, including the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Secretarial Administration, which were under the School of Management Science.

  • Other schools are the School of Engineering and the School of Pure and Applied Science.

Meanwhile, the academic activities of the school are undertaken in two major campuses of the Polytechnic: the East Campus and the West Campus. Moreover, the institution has a standard Fire Service with fire extinguishers and sand buckets located at strategic positions within the school premises.

This is done to contain fire emergencies. Likewise, the institution entered into an insurance policy with IGI, NICCON, etc. Therefore, FPI is indeed a well-structured, controlled, and properly managed school anyone would desire to attend.
