First and Foremost, the American University of Nigeria (AUN), was founded by former Vice-president of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubaka. Originally, history reports that the institution was called ABTI University of Nigeria. Before the inception of the institution in 2004, there was no trace or record of any higher institutions (be it Private or Government) that operated on American Standards and patterns of Higher education programs. Hence, this made the institution the first American-pattern institution of learning in sub-Saharan regions.
It is worth noting that AUN has Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and professional Levels of education and has full accreditation from the National University Commission. Academic activities kicked off in 2015 following the enrollment of her (AUN) first set of students.
Apart from being a member of the National University Commission (NUC), the American University of Nigeria forms a membership affiliation with the Association of American International Colleges and Institutions.

Admission Processing Guide
Firstly, just as the American University of Nigeria (AUN) strives to maintain a high academic profile in Africa, it equally aims at admitting the best among the best of students across the globe. Hence, the admission process of the institution is singularly selective and candidates are taken strictly based on best performances.

Basically, the institution obliged all aspirants of the institution to obtain 5 credit passes, in not more than two sittings, from O’Level/WAEC/NECO/NABTEB or its equivalence. The five credit passes should include credit passes in English and Mathematics.
Additionally, for Engineering students, Physics and Chemistry are compulsory (in addition to English and Mathematics) for admission consideration. Note that knowledge in Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing would be an added advantage to the candidate.
Candidates aspiring to be admitted into the Bachelor of Law (LLB Honors) are obliged to obtain a credit pass in Literature-in-English.
Obtaining the above grades does not guarantee admission into AUN. Other factors such as PUTME, and SS1-3 results transcript is another tool of assessment. The cumulative of the above results form the basic factors put into consideration.

Tuition/School Fees
Here is an overall school/Tuition fee payable to the American University of Nigeria. It is good to note that students (be they fresh students or returning Students) are expected to pay each Semester fee before or at the point of resumption. The students should communicate to the University Authority as soon as possible Any situation that would warrant any student to resume without paying the semester fee, on or before resumption.
