  • Dr. J.H. Parry, who served from 1956 to 1960.

Similarly, from 1960 to date, the office has been referred to as Vice-Chancellor. Unlike the principal who held office before 1960, the vice-chancellors were Nigerians. They include:

  • Professor K. Onwuka Dike, M.A., Ph.D. (Lond.): He was the first principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan. He held office from 1960 to 1967 when he resigned due to the civil war.
  • Late Professor T. Adeoye: After the resignation of Professor K. Onwuka Dike, Professor T. Adeoye took over the office of the vice-chancellor and held the office till 1971.
  • Late Professor G. M. Edington: During the interlude from 1971, late Professor G. M. Edington, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, acted as the Vice-Chancellor.
